In focus: Robert Carmichael

“I was born in Cape Town in 1969 and grew up in South Africa. After university I lived in the UK for a few years and travelled widely through Africa, Asia and even a few parts of Europe. I went to Cambodia in 2001 and ended up working as the managing editor of the Phnom Penh Post newspaper for two years. In early 2009 I returned to Cambodia ahead of the start of the Khmer Rouge tribunal and am currently the country correspondent for the German Press Agency dpa. I also put together news and feature pieces for Radio Australia, Voice of America radio, and Deutsche Welle radio, and for The Independent newspaper in the UK. I am currently writing a book about Cambodia in relation to the Khmer Rouge period.”
